If they’d stopped the debate then and there, Romney would have been awarded a technical knockout. But it went on for another hour and a half, somewhat blunting the force of Mitt’s attack.

Still, it was a good night for him. He did what he needed to do, putting his opponent on the defensive and providing the media with an alternative narrative to “Newt surges.” Will it matter very much come next Tuesday? That depends on how he follows it up, beginning with how he handles the release of his 2010 tax return later on this morning.
